We offer one and two day courses covering the basics of navigation, we will cover practical skills such as how to orientate a map using a compass, relate features from the map to the ground and vice versa, grid references and route planning. We will also discuss walking equipment, local and national access issues, personal responsibilities and the Countryside Code.
Courses are aimed to give you the skills and confidence to successfully plan and navigate walks in the countryside using paths and tracks and is perfect for people with no or little navigation experience whether you are new to the outdoors or have been relying on others, guidebooks or easy well-defined routes.
We also offer half day navigation courses, by request. £20

Bronze National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS)
The Bronze National Navigation Award is a practical hands-on award. It is aimed at people with no navigation experience whether you are new to the outdoors or have been relying on others, guidebooks or easy well-defined routes.
This award has recently been officially accredited by the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 4 and 2 SCQF credit points are awarded on successful completion. Silver and Gold awards are also available.
This course is held over two days which includes the assessment in the second half of day two. Once you have completed this course you will be able to plan and follow routes in the countryside using paths and tracks. You will learn, among other disciplines, how to orientate a map using a compass, relate features from the map to the ground and vice versa, use grid references.
